Description

Antique silver Langendorf pocket watch, 1928.

The watch has a seven jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a long service inscription from ICI Kynoch Ltd.

Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) incorporated the ammunition manufacturer Kynoch, which was initially known as George Kynoch & Co. in 1926. Kynoch became a key part of ICI's Metals Division, particularly its Birmingham site, and was involved in significant production of semi-fabricated non-ferrous metals, ammunition, and other products, especially during World War II. The Kynoch brand continued to be used for sporting cartridges within ICI.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside both of the case backs for Birmingham 1928, together with a maker’s mark for the Birmingham case maker Aaron Dennison. The case is in good condition, just minor marking around the edge, nothing too serious at all.

The glass lens is in good condition, just a couple of small marks.

The dial is signed Langendorf. The Langendorf Watch Company produced watches in Langendorf, Switzerland for exactly a century, from 1873 until 1973. The dial is in very nice condition with original blued steel hands and a minute track with numbers picked out in red.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Date of Manufacture

The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this Antique Silver Pocket Watch to the 1920s.

Langendorf Watch Company was a prominent Swiss watch manufacturer founded in 1873 in Langendorf, Switzerland, known for producing reliable mechanical movements and high-quality pocket watches throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These watches typically feature sterling silver or silver-plated cases, enamel dials with painted numerals, steel hands, and mechanical hand-wound movements housed within dust-resistant inner covers.

Authenticity is verified by examining hallmarks on the case interior, checking the movement serial numbers against manufacturer databases, observing the hand-wound mechanical escapement, and inspecting the enamel dial for period-correct typography.

A vintage pocket watch can be displayed on a dedicated watch stand, incorporated into a desktop vignette, or housed within a glass display cloche on a mantelpiece or bookshelf.

Preservation involves keeping the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every few years, avoiding exposure to moisture and magnetic fields, and storing the piece in a dry, temperature-controlled environment.
