This bentwood hallstand dates from the Art Nouveau period around 1900, attributed to the maker Fischel. Constructed from dark brown stained beech and glass, the piece exhibits organic forms with steam-bent hooks, scrollwork loops, and turned finials. The upper framework incorporates six large S-shaped coat and hat hooks, paired with a central rectangular mirror above a second, larger landscape mirror set within a curved surround. Below these sits a flat shelf supported by bentwood brackets, flanked by loop-shaped umbrella and walking stick holders on either side, all rising on arched scroll feet resting on floor rails. The whole structure measures 203 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. Suitable for positioning in a hallway or entrance lobby, this item provides practical storage for outerwear, accessories, and walking gear in a traditional or period-inspired interior. The dark timber finish shows natural surface wear consistent with age and domestic use, while retaining its original Fischel label underneath the shelf. It combines utility with decorative structural woodwork typical of early twentieth-century bentwood furniture design.

A bentwood hallstand is an entryway furniture piece made from timber that has been softened with steam and shaped into curved forms, designed to accommodate coats, hats, and umbrellas.

These pieces were crafted by steaming beechwood rods under pressure, bending them into structural loops and scrollwork hooks, and securing them with metal screws and turned finials.

Authentic pieces often bear paper maker labels, impressed factory stamps on the underside of the frame, and characteristic steam-bent scrollwork construction.

Position the hallstand in a hallway or foyer against a neutral background to highlight its organic silhouette, pairing it with minimal modern accessories to balance the design.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources to prevent timber warping or cracking, clean gently with a soft cloth, and apply natural beeswax occasionally to nourish the original finish.
