Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Meiji period (18681912) marked a monumental era of modernisation in Japan, during which master metalworkers shifted focus from samurai sword fittings to intricate, naturalistic bronze sculptures intended for international export and exhibition.

These pieces were typically crafted using the lost-wax casting technique (cire perdue), utilising high-grade copper alloys traditionally known as kara-kane, often hand-finished with chemical patination to achieve deep brown or black oxidisation.

Authentic pieces often feature crisp, finely chased feather detailing, substantial weight, naturalistic anatomical proportions, and frequently bear artist signatures or foundry marks either cast directly into the base or applied as inlaid metal plaques.

Place the sculpture as a focal point on a credenza, mantelpiece, or open bookcase, allowing its dark metallic patina and sculptural silhouette to contrast against clean, neutral architectural backgrounds.

Maintain the surface by dusting gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding all commercial metal cleaners or abrasives that could strip the historical patina.
