FAQs

A bow front chest features a convex, outwardly curving front facade, a design popularised during the late 18th and 19th centuries to add elegance and soft lines to case furniture.

Authentic period pieces typically utilise solid mahogany or mahogany veneers applied to secondary timbers such as oak, pine, or deal, supplemented by brass hardware and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authenticity is determined by examining drawer construction for hand-cut dovetailing, irregular timber thicknesses, original backboards, period-appropriate lock mechanisms, and natural patination on the wood.

Pair the rich brown timber tones with neutral wall colours, minimalist modern lighting, and contemporary abstract art to create a balanced contrast between old and new design elements.

Maintain the wood by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
