FAQs

The Venus de Milo is one of the most famous examples of ancient Greek sculpture from the Hellenistic period, renowned for its graceful representation of the goddess Aphrodite and its characteristic missing arms.

Nineteenth-century bronze figures were typically cast using the lost-wax technique (cire perdue), followed by hand-chasing of the surface detail and the application of chemical patinas to achieve specific colouration.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the quality of the chasing, the characteristics of the bronze alloy, the depth and nature of the patina, and the presence of authentic foundry marks or cachets stamped into the metal.

A large bronze figure functions as a commanding focal point and can be displayed on a dedicated plinth or console table to create a sophisticated contrast against minimalist modern furnishings.

Antique bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Chemical cleaners and abrasives must be avoided to protect the original patina and historical surface oxidisation.
