FAQs

French oil paintings from the early to mid-20th century often reflected a transition towards expressive colour palettes and impressionistic brushwork, capturing domestic scenes and floral still lifes with emotional resonance.

These artworks typically utilise oil paint applied to stretched canvas or board, housed within hand-carved, gesso-coated wooden frames finished with gold leaf or metallic paint.

Authenticity is assessed through the examination of canvas aging, pigment oxidation, artist signatures, framing construction, and documentation or provenance records.

An antique painting adds depth and character when hung on neutral walls as a focal point, paired with minimalist contemporary furnishings to create a balanced, curated aesthetic.

Keep the artwork away from direct sunlight and high humidity, dust gently with a soft dry brush, and avoid using chemical cleaning agents on the canvas or frame.
