Victorian furniture encompasses styles produced during the reign of Queen Victoria, spanning from 1837 to 1901, characterised by revival styles, solid construction, and substantial proportions.

Cabinetmakers during the Victorian period predominantly worked with dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, and oak, often incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints and brass hardware.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-appropriate joinery like hand-cut dovetails, secondary softwoods on internal panels, traditional shellac finishes, and authentic wear patterns consistent with age.

Pairing a dark wood antique cabinet with contemporary minimalist decor, neutral walls, and modern lighting creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich grain of the wood.

Maintain mahogany furniture by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to preserve the finish.
