3 Door Walnut Robe by ‘Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh’

1900 - 1920
Description

Circa 1920s. An exhibition quality 3 door burr walnut wardrobe by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh with many Sir Robert Lorimer influences. The top with its simple moulded fore edge and curved frieze, to the front there are three full length doors each veneered in the finest burr walnut which is book matched and repeats from top to bottom, between the doors there is a concave section. On the right-hand side behind the door there is a bank of eight drawers, each with swan neck handles. The other two doors open to reveal an uninterrupted interior, with a brass rail on the top and a full-length drawer in the base. Beneath the drawers is a shaped frieze with carved sections above each of the feet, and the whole piece rests on six elegant squat lily shaped leaves typical of’ Sir Robert Lorimer’ as are the cast brass drop handles on two of the doors.
