Antique Bow Chest of Drawers with Unusual Turned and Carved Feet

19th century
Sold by Culvertons
Description

Over the years we have bought and sold numerous good quality antique mahogany bow chests of drawers, such as this lovely example from the 1830s. However, this particular chest of drawers will join the few I will remember for not following the standard pattern, and for reflecting the imagination and ingenuity of its maker. Its bold and cleverly designed turned and carved feet may possibly link it to the Channel Islands, but wherever it originates from they definitely give this chest the decorative edge over many of its counterparts. Its last home was a historic house in Chichester, West Sussex, where, looking at its current good condition, (please see images) it was very well looked after. We think, like the other antique furniture within the property, this piece was also professionally restored at some stage in its past. The drawers, which have their full complement of original turned and embellished wooden knobs, run effortlessly, the surface has been traditionally finished, and the colour and graining of the mahogany are very appealing. There are, as you would expect when considering its age, slight imperfections but overall it's a lovely chest of drawers which represents great value.

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.
