FAQs

An oil painting on board utilises a rigid support such as hardboard, wood, or pasteboard rather than stretched canvas, often seen in works created throughout the 20th century.

Artists typically prepared rigid boards with a gesso or primer layer before applying oil paints using brushes or palette knives for texture and impasto effects.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the ageing of the paint pigments, the type of support board used, artist signatures, and framing techniques characteristic of the period.

Such artwork can be displayed as a focal point on a neutral wall or positioned above a sideboard, allowing the textures and palette to complement the rooms design scheme.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, maintain stable indoor humidity and temperatures, and gently clean the surface with a soft, dry brush as needed.
