1930''s Art Deco bronze dancer known as The Phoenician Dancer standing on a red and white marble base, after Demétre Horalamb Chiparus, with foundry mark of J B Deposee. The statue stands 47 cms tall.
 
Demétre Chiparus was born in Romania in 1886, learning sculpture from 1906 in Florence, Italy, before moving to Paris in 1912 just prior to World War 1. He attended the Societe des Artistes Francais in Paris. Demand for his sculptures during the 1920''s was high, his main influence being Diaghilev''s Ballet Russes and his female dancers in particular. Chiparus died in 1947.
