An extremely rare pair of Art Deco Bookends signed by H Wandaele, depicting a nymph holding a bouquet of flowers and a Faun ( also known as a Pan or Satyr ).
In Greek mythology, Pan fell in love with the beautiful nymph Syrinx, daughter of Ladon the river-god. Fleeing his attentions, Syrinx pleaded with Zeus to save her and just when Pan captured the wood nymph, Zeus turned her into reeds.
Beautifully cast in cold painted bronze, mounted on portor marble bases.
Both bookends are in very good, original condition, with only a few minor nibles to the marble bases.
A highly collectable pair of bookends, that rarely become available for sale.
