Frequently Asked Questions

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent timber bleaching and fading, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood surface rather than using silicone-based polishes.

Integrating period wooden furniture into modern spaces is achieved by pairing the rich warmth of the timber against neutral walls, allowing the historical piece to serve as a textural focal point balanced by minimalist accessories or modern lighting.

Authentication relies on examining the secondary timbers used in hidden areas, the presence of hand-cut dovetails rather than machine-cut joints, uniform oxidisation of the wood, and hand-forged or cast brass fixings appropriate to the period.

Authentic period pieces are constructed using dense tropical hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, solid timber drawer linings, and traditional brass hardware.

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the British Kings George I through IV (1714 to 1830), characterised by a synthesis of classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and an evolution from heavy walnut to rich mahogany as the primary timber.
