Art Deco Bronze Pheasant by Irénée Rochard

Description

Particularly fine example of a pheasant sculpture by renowned French sculptor Irénée Rochard from the Art Deco period created c 1935. Excellent bronze patina in three tones. on a black marble base. The sculpture is signed by Rochard.

Rochard was born in Villefranche-sur-Saone in January 1906 and studied in the Beau-Arts and Arts-Deco schools from 1924 to 1928, and became member of the French Artists Society from 1938 onwards. Rocard won numerous Prizes and distinctions during his long career. Virtually his entire focus was on the animal world, creating graceful sculptures of horses, monkeys, gazelles, dogs, pheasants and pelicans among others. Rochard died in Paris in March 1964.
