Exceptional, large Victorian brass wall pocket, circa 1870.
Cast sheet brass hand pierced and engraved throughout.
The back plate depicts a 19th century steam and sail warship, in full sail with gun ports on the side of the hull.
The curved front engraved with ''The Victory'' and ''The Thunderer''
Below the Royal Arms an oval print of ''Lord Nelson'' supported by two mermaids,
and his famous exhortation;
''England Expects Every Man This Day Will Do His Duty''
also shown is the Eddystone Lighthouse and a small British naval fortification from an earlier period.
Below is an oval framed print of ''Sir Walter Raleigh''
All executed in triumphant, flamboyant trophy style.
High quantity, heavy, cast sheet brass, in very good condition with no damage or repair,
the glazed prints now somewhat darkened with age.
Excellent golden coulour, not recently cleaned or polished.
Width 17'' or 435mm, weight 1395 grams.
