Description

In Greek mythology Omphale, the legendary Queen of Lydia, bought Hercules as a slave for a year. She is shown wearing a full quiver of arrows and , what appears to be, the pelt of a sabre tooth tiger. The bronze, circa 1880, is signed Patou and has a pleasing greenish brown patination with a few traces of gilding suggesting that elements were originally parcel gilded. Very unusually she has pierced ears although if she was wearing ear rings these are now missing. The bronze is presented in very good condition with the wear consistent with its age. The black marble base and the bronze have been lightly waxed to preserve and enhance the finish.

Overall height, including the marble base, 24cms, the width of the marble base is 9.6cms and its depth 9.25cms.
