A very decorative early 19th century French iron crucifix. These crosses or Wayside crosses were used to denote town or village boundaries or as a place of prayer for travellers passing by. This particularly large cross has two women standing at the feet of Jesus, they are believed to be his mother Mary and Mary Magdalene.
This piece is in wonderful original condition with a lovely patina and just age related wear.
