A Large Antique Oil Painting of a Religious Scene

19th century
Description

An 18th/19thC oil on canvas of a religious scene after the original (1780) by the anglo American artist John Copley Singleton. The painting is unsigned and undated and has been mounted on board at some time in the past due to damage and deterioration. The frame is period and retains much of its original gilt and the mouldings are good. The rear of the painting is covered in early bible pages dated 1811 and the frame has an old Westminster Bank label. There is surface damage and overpainting however the whole is extremely decorative with good colours and would suit a substantial building with religious connections.

Overall 107 cm wide by 87 high and about 5 cm deep.
