Georgian Inlaid Serpentine Chest Of Drawers

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Tom Scott Antiques

An outstanding quality and beautifully proportioned late 18th century Georgian flame mahogany and inlaid serpentine chest of four graduated drawers with a satinwood banding to the Cuban mahogany top, circa 1780 and in fabulous original condition. A nice alternative to the more typical bracket feet style.

The quality of this piece is clear to see from the book matched flame mahogany beaded drawer fronts with their inlaid and box wood stringing and bone escutcheons, but also internally as this chest has a fully chestnut lined interior and the top drawer is also segmented with moulded chestnut too, so the drawers glide effortlessly.

Flanked by full height reeded columns which also run the width of the serpentine top and base, also the turned feet are reeded too.

Certainly is a very beautiful and elegant piece of antique Georgian furniture which is thanks to those feet just raising the chest up a little off the floor, giving it the perfect proportions and great storage.
