FAQs

Venetian canal paintings gained immense popularity during the 18th and 19th centuries as prized acquisitions for collectors undertaking the Grand Tour across Europe.

Traditional oil paintings typically utilize woven linen or cotton canvas stretched over wooden stretcher frames, primed with animal glue sizing and gesso, and painted with pigment-infused linseed oil.

Authentic period pieces can be identified through microscopic examination of craquelure, canvas oxidisation, hand-forged stretcher nails, and the chemical composition of historical pigments.

A large traditional artwork serves as a powerful focal point in a modern interior when paired with minimalist architectural framing, neutral wall colours, and subtle directional picture lighting.

Antique canvases should be kept away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels, with professional surface cleaning and varnish removal undertaken strictly by a certified conservator.
