Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian genre painting focuses on realistic depictions of daily life, often showcasing narrative, rustic, or domestic scenes with an emphasis on storytelling and human emotion.

Artists utilised oil pigments bound with linseed oil applied onto stretched linen or cotton canvas, frequently mounted within carved wood frames finished with water or oil gilding.

Authentication involves examining period-appropriate canvas weave, hand-carved stretcher bars, genuine craquelure patterns, and verified artist signatures or date marks.

A Victorian oil painting can be placed above a sideboard or fireplace mantel to create a refined historical focal point that contrasts with modern, minimalist decor.

Keep the painting away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels, and gently clean the gilt frame using a soft, dry natural hair brush.
