Large C1900 Meiji period Oriental Japanese cloisonne charger plate. Made of brass/bronze with enamel decoration.

A breathtaking quality piece with large impressive proportions and 12 lobed shape. Complex central medallion with ho-ho bird or Japanese phoenix design against a gold splashed background. The central scene is framed by a ruyi-shaped geometric pattern and the cavetto of the plate is embellished by more foliate and floral scrolls. The reverse of the plate is enamelled in a typical blue fish scale pattern all over. In very good condition with only minor surface wear and enamel crazing consistent with age.
