Pierre Jules Mêne(1810-1879 was an important member of the French ‘animalier’
movement, noted for his sculptures of domestic animals. His first work in London
was exhibited in 1849 and he specialised in smaller bronze figures, which explains
why none of his work appears as public statuary.
