Large Russian Painted Icon in Metal Oklad,c1890

Description

Large Russian Icon in metal Oklad,c1890. Depicting a Saint the Icon is painted on wooden board and housed in a highly decorative silver coloured metal Oklad (it maybe silver but I cannot see any marks). The quality of the painting and the metalwork is very good and it has taken on great patina after years of handling. Overall condition is good, there is rubbing/surface wear and a small part of the pierced halo is missing but all minor and very much as you would expect from a piece of this age.
