James Thomas Watts RCA RBSA 1853-1930.Liverpool landscape painter,who exhibited from 1873, at the R.A. from 1878,SS,NWS,GG,RBSA and elsewhere;titles at the R.A. including ‘ Beech Trees in Winter’,1878,’A Bright Day on Barmouth Sands ‘1881,and They Gypsies Haunt’,1903.The Fuller Collection of Watercolours auctioned by Christies in 2000 contained nineteen examples by the artist with ‘A Woodland Landscape in Winter’ a watercolour measuring 33x26.7 cms realising £18213 and ‘Natures Cathedral’, a watercolour measuring 40x30.2 cms realising£12925.This fine example is housed in its original giltwood frame with the title inscribed on a label on the replaced back board. ‘ Welsh Beechwood in Autumn’ signed watercolour, image size 29.5x39.5cms;framed size 46x56.5 cms
