Driscolls Antiques Ltd has dated this piece to the Edwardian era.
It has an elaborately carved pediment above three large full length doors. The piece has been skilfully crafted creating the ‘Bombe’ shape from the most strikingly figured walnut. It has the original decorative brass handles and unusual hinges all of which compliment the piece perfectly. A single key operates all three locks. The central door retains the original bevelled mirror and hides the interior which contains a brass hanging rail and central lower drawer. A single brass hanging rail can also be found in each section flanking the main wardrobe space. This fine piece stands on splayed feet with decorative carved detailing. Both the front and sides of the wardrobe have been embellished with delightful boxwood inlay in a fashion to enhance the ‘Bombe’ silhouette. This fabulous, unusual and highly collectable antique wardrobe, although large, does split down into several pieces aiding transportation and positioning. It is a lovely rich warm shade of walnut with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
