Shaun King Antiques has dated this piece to the 1870s.
The well-designed legs are raised on their original brass castors with beaded collars.

Part of the appeal of these SOFAS is that they are not large, the seats being 14 inches (36 cm) high, and so could be used in front of a fire or window, on a landing or in the middle of a room without blocking sight lines.

The SOFAS are carved to the back as well as the front so have a visual appeal all the way round.
The SOFAS are in good condition. They are firm, have well-sprung seats and a good patina. The covers are not new. They show signs of fading and some marks. They are covered in pale Dralon which was probably done about 30 years ago.
