Currier & Ives was a prolific American printmaking firm operating throughout the nineteenth century. They produced hand-coloured lithographs depicting current events, landscapes, satire, and daily life, making art accessible to the general public.

These works were produced by drawing images onto limestone blocks with grease crayons, printing the black-and-white impressions onto rag paper, and subsequently applying watercolours by hand using an assembly line process.
