A Very Fine Pair of Regency Period Bronze and Gilt Bronze Tazze in the Manner of Thomas Messenger.

Description

This charming and exquisitely finished pair of English tazze, circa 1820, whilst unsigned, are very much in the manner of the renown Thomas Messenger. The dishes, in the form of patinated bronze scallop shells, are raised on ormolu dolphin supports which sit on square cut Italian Nero Portoro marble bases with foliate ormolu galleries on a bronze plinth.

Maximum height 12cms, maximum width of shell 10.7cms and maximum depth of shell 9.5cms. Bronze plinth base 7.4cms square.

Condition. The finishes, which are original and have wear consistent with their age, have been professionally cleaned. There are minor nibbles to the marble, a very small filled hole to one of the dishes and there is a slight variance in the colour of the dishes
