A unique English porcelain two handled Loving Cup lavishly painted with flowers, inscribed in gilding verso William Brown 1854.
A gorgeous Victorian two handled Loving Cup hand painted with an exquisite bouquet of flowers, including a rose, auricula, a passion flower and forget-me-nots on one side and a garland of pink roses on the other below the name. The mug commemorates William Brown and is dated 1854. The handles are strong and heavily gilded in a snakeskin pattern. There is more decorative gilding below the lip.
This Loving Cup was probably given as a presentation trophy and was intended to be a family heirloom. The history of the Loving Cup dates back to Saxon times.
Condition: Very good indeed, no chips or cracks. Slight wear to the gilding on the top rim above the flowers and verso to the base as visible in the photo.
Date: 1854
