A Good Size 19th Century Grand Tour Bronze Model of the Temple of Vesta

Description

An Italian well cast patinated bronze architectural model of the The Temple of Hercules Victor (Vesta) in Rome. Not only is this of good size but it is a very detailed version dating from around 1870 and is fixed to its original Marmo Giallo Antico base.

Approximate overall height 14.5cms

Square marble base some 15cms x 15cms

There would have been a small removable lid to the top of the roof but this is now missing, as is often the case with this model. It was possibly designed as a censer or the central element may have been used for pot pouri. Sometimes designed as an inkwell but this one doesn't appear to have been for that purpose. The bronze is in excellent condition and has been professionally cleaned and waxed as has the original attached marble base. The marble has a number of very minor nicks to the edges.
