**************************

This excellent army officers sword was presented to major R.H. Brudenell-Bruce D.S.O. from the officers and other ranks of the Norfolk Regiment in 1918,

most likely as a mark of esteem to one of their own for being awarded such a distinguished gallantry medal as the D.S.O. (Distinguished Service Order).

Major Robert Hanbury Brudenell-Bruce (family name of Marquess of Ailesbury) was born in 1881 and educated at Harrow, he served with the 2nd Battalion of the Norfolk Regiment in the Great War of 1914-18, we have visited the National Archives to attain more information on his bravery award and have found a paragraph which says as follows;

"Brudenell-Bruce, Robert Hanbury, Major, Norfolk Regt., for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, during severe fighting, for two days he rendered very valuable service by reconnoitering under difficult and dangerous conditions, when situations arose requiring personal reports as communications were broken he displayed great coolness and complete disregard of danger in carrying out his dangerous mission and throughout the operation his conduct was marked by great gallantry and presence of mind, he was also mentioned in Dispatches.

His ancestor James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, led the Charge of the Light Brigade.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
