-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques- A very handsome early 18th century solid oak chest-on-stand. c1720-40. The top having a protruding stepped cornice above an arrangement of two short drawers, over three long graduating drawers. In-between the drawers are attractive raised half-rounded drawer dividers, a typical design feature on this age of furniture. The base stand section having a central long shallow drawer, flanked by two square shaped deep drawers, with a shaped apron, supported by slender cabriole legs with pad feet. Beautifully rich chocolate colour to the oak and a warm patina. Very ornate brass handles and matching escutcheons. In excellent antique condition, all solid oak drawers are strong and sturdy and open smoothly. Expected signs of age. The handles are slightly later 18th century replacements.
