Charlie Johnson Payne 'Snaffles' (British, 1884-1967)

'Gentlemen Unafraid.’, circa 1917, unsigned, titled and inscribed in pen to the original mount, pencil and watercolour, in the original ebonised frame.

Dimensions: 43.5 x 59cm (excluding mount and frame) Mount 62.5 x 78cm (excluding frame)

Provenance:

Colonel Deacon, a friend of ‘Snaffles’ and M.F.H. Thurlow, Essex; thence by descent. By repute, Colonel Deacon is depicted in a number of prints by ‘Snaffles’, ‘The Season’, ‘The Timber Merchant’ and ‘Merry England’.
