Original Victorian Four Gallon copper measure, circa 1860.
The best ever, most attractive shape, near spherical, bulbous and curved throughout.
Squat wide form 14,3/4'' or 37.5cm diameter.
No spinning, all hand (hammer) raised with castellated braized seams to all elements.
Original ''4 GALLONS'' label and lead plug VR over a crossed shield, excise stamp.
In very good, sound, tight condition, not over worked, some dents and scrapes, relatively insignificant for its size, not cleaned or polished, and for me best left like this.
Good old surface, not recently polished.
Height to top of handle 14'' or 36cm, weight 5.4 kilos.
An admirable and rare variation on the standard straight sided haystack or ''West Country'' measure.
