Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This mid-century African Benin tribal sculpture depicts a standing warrior cast in a dark brown bronze alloy measuring 77 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 16 cm deep. The piece is produced using the traditional lost-wax method and displays visible casting holes on the surface alongside a rich, aged patina. The figure wears traditional headgear topped with a finial, detailed ceremonial neckwear, an elaborate patterned chest ornament, a wrapped skirt, and bracelets on the wrists and ankles, while holding objects in both hands. In a contemporary interior, this sculpture suits placement atop a sideboard or within a gentleman's library. The statue stands upright on sturdy feet and adds a strong tribal art element to a room, functioning as a striking focal point on a surface.

FAQs

Benin bronzes originate from the Kingdom of Benin in present-day Nigeria, traditionally cast by specialized artisan guilds to depict royalty, military figures, and court dignitaries.

These figures are produced using copper alloys, brass, or bronze via the lost-wax casting technique, resulting in hollow metal structures with detailed surface relief.

Authentic mid-century examples display characteristic lost-wax casting seams, core material remnants, dark natural oxidisation, and weight consistent with solid copper alloy craftsmanship.

Position the statue as a focal object on a sideboard, pedestal, or deep alcove to emphasize its sculptural silhouette and textured metallic finish against neutral backdrop tones.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft dry cloth or soft-bristled brush, avoiding chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that could alter the natural dark oxidised patina.
