Description

C19th Sino-Tibetan cast bronze study of Buddha Shakyamuni.

Well-detailed bronze study of Buddha in dhyanasana pose on a double lotus leaf base . The face with serene expression, the eyes downcast , arched eyebrows, aquiline nose and smiling lips , the right arm extended holding an offering bowl . The eyes centred by a raised urns , wearing a flowing robe or sanghati with incised decoration, covering the shoulders. The hair worn in tight curls beneath the ushnisha .

The underside of the base showing typical aging and silica residue , having been cast in sand in the traditional manner .

Purchased privately from a local family , whose ancestor visited and climbed in Tibet during the 1930’s.

An emotive and well-modelled statue with a subtle verdigris aged colour and patina .
