Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tallboy, also referred to as a chest-on-chest, is a tall storage piece featuring an upper chest mounted on top of a larger lower chest. Originating in the 18th century, these pieces were designed to initialise vertical storage while maintaining elegant proportions.

Georgian tallboys were predominantly constructed from dense timbers such as Cuban or Honduras mahogany, often backed with pine or oak drawer linings. Metalwork typically comprised hand-cast brass drop handles and decorative backplates.

Authentic 18th-century examples display evidence of hand craftsmanship, including hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn drawer bottoms, original brassware, and natural timber shrinkage over time. The upper section separates from the base to facilitate transport.

A tallboy functions as a focal architectural piece in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway. Pair dark polished timber against neutral walls, contemporary artwork, or subtle lighting to create a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Maintain the surface finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying high-grade beeswax once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and fading.
