*** Isadore BONHEUR (1827-1901) is best known as one of the most distinguished French animalier sculptors. He started work drawing and painting with his artist sister Rosa, and first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1848, but soon concentrated on his greatest love ~ sculpture. During a long and illustrious career, he won many medals and achieved great economic success in both France and England, where he was represented at the Royal Academy. He was a keen observer of nature, catching the movement and characteristic of each particular species.
