Campaign Chest of Drawers

19th century
Sold by Culvertons
Description

This English campaign chest of drawers retains an attractive and sought after patina - its colour and surface both reflect its history. These attributes always, in my mind, enhance such a piece. This two-part military chest is predominantly made from teak, with the drawer linings constructed from ash. Its handles and brass strap-work are all original and a key is supplied that fits and works every lock apart from one. The top-right hand drawer was intended to hold important items and as such was secured by a Bramah lock. Cutting a key for this secure and intricate lock is prohibitively expensive but can be done if requested. As you would expect its feet are removable for transportation.

This campaign chest has been professionally and sensitively conserved - in my mind, less is always more when restoring campaign furniture.

When ever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers.

We do strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock within the 'Selling Antiques' website. However we do understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look within the home or garden. For this reason if notified within seven days from date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
