The seat is certainly useable for two adults and ideal for when you need additional seating in a living room perhaps, but also, being quite a decorative piece, it lends itself well to being used as a hall chair, end of bed seat or as intended originally as a window seat.
The rear is fully upholstered, so it can free stand.
