Rowland Henry Hill was born in Halifax in 1873. He studied at the Halifax and Bradford Schools of Art and exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy from 1897, at the Paris Salon, Venetian International and in many provincial exhibitions. He travelled widely and lived at Hinderwell near Staithes, where as a member of the Staithes Group of Painters he painted many local scenes. Examples of his work are in the Imperial War Museum, Leeds, Wakefield, Whitby, Harrogate and several other Public and private collections.
The present painting is a fine example measuring 14''x 18''. It is signed lower right and dated 1911, and is mounted and framed in a quality hand made gilt frame giving an overall size of 22''x 26''.
