This nineteenth-century Japanese Meiji period bronze okimono sculpture depicts a standing bare-foot fisher girl positioned upon a detailed naturalistic rock base. She wears a traditional wrap tunic, a wide-brimmed straw hat, and carries a small woven creel basket suspended from her left hand while grasping a tall fishing rod in her right hand. The dark brown patinated bronze surface has a rich, metallic sheen. An artist signature in an oval seal appears upon the lower base. The sculpture measures 49 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. Such a decorative figural piece suits placement upon a traditional gentleman library sideboard top or a central hall table surface, bringing sculptural presence to an interior space.

An okimono is a traditional Japanese decorative display sculpture or figurine designed for placement in a tokonoma alcove or residential interior, widely produced during the Meiji period.

They were typically cast using the lost-wax process with copper alloys, followed by meticulous hand-chasing for detail and chemical surface treatments to achieve deep brown or black patination.

Authentic pieces feature cast or incised signatures, naturalistic proportions, detailed hand-finishing, and age-appropriate wear or oxidisation within crevices rather than uniform artificial coating.

Place the figure on a sideboard, bookshelf, or mantelpiece where focused light can highlight its surface texture and silhouette against a neutral background.

Dust the item regularly using a dry microfibre cloth or soft-bristled brush, avoiding water, chemical cleaners, or abrasive polishes that remove the historic patina.
