Theodore GECHTER: a charming mid-19th century French animalier BRONZE SCULPTURE of a Pack Horse.

Finely modelled and particularly well cast, it is signed within the integral base: T. GECHTER. Good colour and patina. 6ins long.

***Jean-Francoise "Theodore" GECHTER was a noteworthy French sculptor and one of the early proponents of the "Animalier" movement. He was born in Paris in 1795 and first exhibited in 1824. He died relatively young in 1844 aged 49 years.
