Burgundy Leather and Walnut Sofa by Gillows

Description

Circa 1870, burgundy leather, walnut sofa stamped by Gillows. Upholstered in a deep buttoned, burgundy leather with a diamond pattern to the back and large stuffover seat. The shaped, rounded arms are faced with close brass studding which continues to the fore-edge beneath the seat. There is a Gillows stamp to one of the square back legs and the front legs are turned, carved, tapering and fluted, finishing on a turned foot. The sofa has been re-upholstered approximately 40 years ago.
