P.J. MENE: an endearing and fine quality late 19th century French BRONZE SCULPTURE of a retriever.

The hound is depicting sitting obediently whilst awaiting his master'??s command, his prey laid out on the ground before him. It is signed within the integral bronze base; 9.5ins (24cms) wide.

***Pierre Jules MENE was a highly regarded sculptor in the famous French 'animalier' movement. Born in 1810, he is considered one of the founders of the movement and indeed a leading artist of the 19th century. He died in 1879.
