A semainier is a traditional tall chest of drawers originating in 18th century France, traditionally featuring seven drawers to represent the seven days of the week.

These tall chests were typically constructed from solid timber carcasses veneered in exotic woods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, frequently topped with a marble slab.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional veneer application, period-appropriate timber shrinkage, and original iron or brass locks rather than modern fixings.

Its vertical proportions make it ideal for smaller bedrooms or dressing rooms where floor space is limited, providing functional storage while adding traditional architectural presence.

Maintain the timber by avoiding direct sunlight, keeping away from heat sources to prevent veneer splitting, and occasionally treating the surface with natural beeswax.
