Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian flame mahogany 5ft king size half tester bed, circa 1850, in excellent condition. This bed fits a standard UK king size mattress (5ft” wide x 6ft 6” long). The bed incorporates a flame mahogany canopy with curved, fluted cornice. The roof of the canopy has been upholstered in fine quality ruched cotton in a starburst pattern. The rear and sides of the canopy are fitted with brass rails with matching rings, from which the drapes are hung. The drapes display a floral pattern, comprising green, pink blue & brown colours on a cream base, are double skinned and are fitted with standard curtain hooks. The canopy and drapes are raised on two upholstered posts, above the shaped mahogany headboard, which displays a raised central pediment with scroll carvings. The headboard is connected via simple side rails to the footboard. The footboard is raised on column supports, topped with bulbous finials, and features a curved top rail and foliate cartouche. The column supports also feature ornate foliate carved, fielded panel lunettes, which serve as bolt covers. The inner-side of the footboard boasts deep-buttoned fine cotton upholstery, in a cream colour. The bed includes a good quality old replacement removable Vi-spring divan base. The bed rests on its original brass & mug castors; the divan base also features castors.

Condition Report:
This bed is in very good condition, which is commensurate with its age. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges and bed frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. Minor fading to the polish on the corner of the footboard on one side. The upholstered footboard and roof has been professionally cleaned. The drapes have also been professionally cleaned. The bed retains the original polish, which is why it boasts a stunning colour and patination to the flame mahogany. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished. The bed is solid in joint and is ready to use.
