Description:
Here is a rare and stunning quality stunning example of an antique French Louis XV style carved walnut upholstered couch, which has been newly upholstered, circa 1860, from the 2nd Empire period, in excellent condition. The couch is constructed of solid walnut and features a stunning quality carved floral cartouche, acanthus leaves and a floral frame, which terminates on cabriole legs all round and incorporates the original small brass and ceramic castors to the front legs.
It features scroll arms; a shield back, shaped sides and a serpentine front. The back rail features stunning floral carvings to the centre of the pediment and the frame is carved with acanthus leaves. The base of the couch is firmly sprung so that you do not sink into the seat but at the same time it is extremely comfortable sit on. The underside is upholstered with the original webbing.
Condition Report:
This couch is in excellent condition. It has been newly upholstered in top quality luxurious silk & cotton brocade upholstery; therefore the upholstery is in excellent condition (it’s clean and shows no signs of wear & tear or damage). The seat is firmly strung but is also extremely comfortable to sit on. The underside is upholstered with the original webbing. The front legs feature the original castors (please note, the back legs were not designed to have castors). The carved frame and arms are also in excellent condition with no loose joints, and no missing carvings to the frame. The couch is solid in joint overall and ready to use.
