Georgian Mahogany Breakfront Wardrobe

19th century
Description

FINE quality late Georgian mahogany inverted breakfront wardrobe in very good original condition. The first thing to say about this wardrobe is it is of the highest quality and it is a lovely mellow colour especially on the front. This type of wardrobe is often referred to as a "Pillar Box" wardrobe.

The centre section has seven drawers, two smaller ones at the top over 5 larger ones beneath. The drawers all have their original wooden knobs and Bramah type brass locks. The drawers are all oak lined with pine bottoms and have the original blue paper linings. To either side of the bank of drawers there is a full length hanging cupboard.

The wardrobe has its original plinth base which is in good order. The two end parts have lift off nice shape cornice sections with the middle section have a shaped architectural back board. The right hand wardrobe door has its original lock and working key as do the drawers. The left hand wardrobe door has had its original lock removed and the hole professionally filled in some time ago, the door now shuts with magnetised catches.

Apart from a few old scores and marks to the sides this wardrobe is in exceptionally good condition. It all comes part in sections for moving and is then screwed together once in place. Huge amount of storage space.

SIZES; The body of the wardrobe is 80" wide but in total at the top with the cornice it is 83" wide. 23 1/2" deep max and 80" high.

CIRCA; 1825 - 1830

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
